PORSCHE EXPANDS ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH GOOGLE. The sports car manufacturer and the technology company increase their collaboration with the aim of offering greater integration of Google services in Porsche vehicles. Porsche will offer Google services for navigation, voice recognition and the application ecosystem in future generations of its models, starting in the middle of this decade.
Google Maps, Google Assistant and a wide variety of applications available through the Google Play Store will be included. Porsche customers will continue to enjoy the familiar Porsche Communication Management (PCM) user interface and regular online updates that keep the infotainment system always up to date. “Our customers fulfill a dream with Porsche vehicles. In addition to timeless design and exceptional performance, they also want a seamless digital experience. This combined ecosystem is the result of the integration of platforms and applications that users know from their mobile devices,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG. “We have an open approach and are developing innovations with leading technology partners.”
In the future, applications from different vendors that are relevant to customers will be integrated directly into the vehicle via standardized interfaces and platforms. The PCM will thus become an integral part of the digital ecosystem for Porsche users around the world. The next step on this path will be to offer Google integration. The partnership between Porsche and Google is a long-term initiative. “We are delighted to partner with Porsche as they aim to provide their customers with innovative and useful in-vehicle experiences,” said Hiroshi Lockheimer, Senior Vice President of Platforms and Ecosystems at Google. “With an Android-based infotainment experience, drivers will be able to access the latest Google technologies and services along with the best of Porsche design and branding.”
